Dingley Village was originally known as Dingley before being renamed in 1991.
In 1856, Thomas Attenborough purchased property and named his home Dingley Grange, after Dingley Hall in Northamptonshire, England. A cultivating network grew, generally remote from either the bayside or Gippsland railroad lines, moving into market greenery enclosures and poultry to supply metropolitan markets.
In 1936 the Kingswood Golf Club, Dandenong, opened its new course at Dingley.
Close to the Moorabbin Airport is a mechanical zone set in a garden scene, isolated from the Dingley Village local location by a booking for the Mornington Peninsula Freeway.
There are three Primary Schools located in Dingley Village: Dingley Primary School, established in 1925, Kingswood Primary School established in 1976 and St Mark’s Primary School. The former is a Catholic primary school within the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
Dingley Village’s claim to fame – the band Jet known for anthems such as ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl?’ and ‘Rollover DJ’ orginated in Dingley Village, with the brothers Nic and Chris Cester growing up in the area.
