The town of Berwick was initially part of the Cardinia Stream run. Subdivision began in 1854 and a store, post office, inn and different organizations were built up. Wheat, grain and potatoes were developed, with a flour process working for quite a long while. Dairy cultivating and cheddar making later turned into the fundamental exercises. The territory developed with the development of a mentor street among Melbourne and the Gippsland district, the Mail station opening on 18 September 1858.
A quarry opened in 1859 to supply stabilizer for the railroad line along a similar course, which opened in 1877, and a goad line was built to Berwick rail route station to transport the metal. The site of the quarry is currently involved by Wilson Botanic Stop. From 1861 until 1902, Berwick was likewise the central command of the Shire of Berwick, initially shaped as the Berwick Streets Board.
