How can I do my own SEO for free?

1. Try typing phrases you think your customers would type into Google.
For example something long like: diesel generator fuel consumption curve.

2. Pick keywords that are competitive but achievable.

How? A good way to tell is by looking at the sites that rank.
Open the first ten websites.

  • Do they look big?
  • Do they look like they would be spending $$ on their marketing?
  • Do their sites look modern and expensive?

If you answer yes to most of these, then move on. Its probably too competitive to rank without spending money on it yourself.

Try and find competitors that have an old looking site. See the image below:

3. Once you have found a good keyword, make a new page on your site.
Title the page after this new keyword.
Enter a unique description into the description.
Enter some unique content (about 300 words, and appropriate images) and possibly a pdf with the same keyword file name.

4. Market it, push the page out on Facebook and twitter for example.
If its a highly searched keyword customers will be talking about it on forums.
Help them out by finding these forums and post helpful info and occasionally link to your site.
Try not to spam, don’t flood sites with a link to your site.

5. Track and measure, keep detailed notes on the before and after.
Use Google analytics to track the new traffic you are getting.
