The Turnbull government has a project in the works that would allow individuals to log onto a variety of websites with the same username and password.
According to Angus Taylor, Digital Transformation Assistant Minister, the ‘super logon’ would allow Australians to log into a variety of services without the hassle of trying to remember a plethora of different usernames and passwords.
Some of the services involved could include the Department of Human Services, banking, grocery shopping and telecommunication companies.
The process would include two-step verification with a code being sent via mobile phones to log into the system. Taylor, believes that this will reduce the incidence of identity fraud as individuals won’t have as many passwords to remember so they can be more secure and complicated making them harder to crack!
Questions and Answers
Q. How do I secure my passwords online?
A. Here are 3 ways to safely store your passwords:
- Use your browser: All browsers have a password management system that is built into them and you can secure them here. Just make sure you have a complex password for your computer or device though to stop any people who use these from accessing them.
- 1Password, Dashlane and LastPass: These are paid for services that will secure your passwords for you. Encryption means that your password is safe from prying eyes.
- 2-step verification: Turn this option on wherever possible. You will enter your password and the system will send a code to your trusted mobile phone for authentication.
